The United Nations Disarmament and International Security Committee

The UNDISEC committee is addressing two important security issues on the African continent.

The first agenda item, the conflict in Sudan, addresses the deep humanitarian crisis the country is facing, the political instability caused by armed conflict, and the security threats it poses throughout the region. In this context, the role the international community should play in peacebuilding, the delivery of humanitarian aid, and the democratic transition process is discussed.

The second agenda item focuses on water sharing tensions between countries around the Nile River, and in particular the effects of the Hedasi Dam built by Ethiopia. The search for solutions within the framework of international law for the fair, sustainable, and peaceful use of river resources is at the forefront.

Agenda Item 1: Sudanese Conflicts
Agenda Item 2: Nile River Tensions

The United Nations Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee
The UNSOCHUM committee focuses on security, human rights and cooperation issues related to international civil aviation.

The first agenda item discusses ICAO’s authority and the scope of international sanctions in response to the increasing number of incidents such as state-sponsored hijackings and politically motivated airspace closures. The impact of sanctions on civil aviation, the provision of humanitarian exemptions such as spare parts and maintenance, and ethical questions regarding air transportation in countries under sanctions are also being considered.

The second agenda item addresses how human trafficking occurs via air and how airports and airlines should cooperate against it. At the same time, topics such as transparency in data sharing after air accidents, cross-border technical support, and the role of ICAO in investigation processes are highlighted.

Agenda Item 1: Aviation Security, Sovereignty, and Political Tensions
Agenda Item 2: Humanitarian Protection and International Cooperation in Civil Aviation
The United Nations Special Political and Decolonization
The UNEP committee focuses on the environmental protection and sustainable management of Antarctica.

In particular, stricter regulations on fishing activities are being considered to prevent overfishing of critical species for the ecosystem, such as krill and toothfish. In addition, the development of sustainable tourism policies that allow for controlled tourism activities while limiting human impact is being discussed. The committee also considers the declaration of new protected areas and the expansion of existing ones in order to protect unique and sensitive land and marine habitats.

The second agenda item questions the validity of territorial claims on Antarctica, the prevention of the use of the region for military purposes, and the extent to which the 1959 Antarctic Treaty adapts to contemporary conditions, especially climate change, technological developments, and increasing commercial interest.

Agenda Item 1:Environmental Protection and Sustainable Management of the Antarctic
Agenda Item 2: Governance and Geopolitical Challenges in the Antarctic Region
The United Nations-Oceans
The UN-OCEANS committee is addressing the impacts of climate change on the seas and the protection of the oceans.

The first agenda item aims to develop global adaptation and mitigation strategies against the risks posed by melting glaciers and warming seas in low-lying coastal areas. The need to provide financial and technical support to Small Island States to preserve their sovereignty and become resilient to the climate crisis is highlighted. At the same time, it is important to declare more Marine Protected Areas and effectively protect existing areas in order to protect marine ecosystems.

The second agenda item emphasizes the need to increase international cooperation against piracy, as well as the balanced observance of maritime law and human rights.

Agenda Item 1: Climate Resilience and Oceanic Environmental Protection
Agenda Item 2: Maritime Security and Legal Frameworks
